Roman Game Board in Mount Zion

JerusalemIsrael

A Roman game board from ancient times is engraved in stone on a doorpost in the courtyard of King David's tomb on Mount Zion.

The builders used a stone that had been used before, and placed it so that the engraving of the game board faces out and can be seen. As it seems, this stone was previously used as a paving stone in one of the streets or squares of Jerusalem in the Roman period.

The Roman game is called Tria and is an earlier and more complex version of the present day Tic-Tac-Toe game. It was popular and widespread among Romans, and more engravings of it can be found at other archaeological sites too.
