The Best Old City Lookout

JerusalemIsrael

One of the best viewpoints of the Old City of Jerusalem is from the Mount of Olives, near the Seven Arches Hotel and right above the ancient Jewish cemetery. The lookout is named after Rehavam Ze'evi, a former Israeli minister and army officer who was murdered in Jerusalem in 2001. From the lookout there is a spectacular view of the Temple Mount and the Dome of the Rock, Gethsemane, Kidron Valley, Mount Zion and the Government House, as well as all the main sites in the Old City and its surroundings.

The Seven Arches Hotel, formerly Intercontinental, next to which is the observatory, was once considered the most luxurious hotel in East Jerusalem. It is named after its most prominent architectural feature, seven arches built into its facade. The hotel was built in the early 1960s at the initiative of the King of Jordan and was inaugurated in 1964.
